Winter warmer: Chestnuts

Roasted chestnuts are about the only way most people eat this sweet flavored deliciousness.  Within this series, our Jane sets out to let us know that there are more unusual ways to prepare this for the up coming winter months – vegetarian stir fry; creamy chestnut soup; roast pork; fudgy chocolate chestnut brownie; and of course, freshly pan roasted chestnuts.

Just looking at Jane’s photos is making my stomach rumble; I can almost smell the food and feel the warmth.

Tovo’s Italia Mia

Christopher Tovo takes us to the Italy as he see’s it – Italia Mia – Tovo’s Italy.

“While Australia struggles with a global perception of “laid-back” bronzed bodies on beaches, Italy suffers an inextricable link to pizza, gelato and the leaning tower of Pisa, as definitive representations of its culture.
Italia Mia directly translates to My Italy, an apt title for Christopher Tovo’s new exhibition. This collection reverently delves into the character of Italy and its people. There is a quiet, brooding intensity among the images; a curious absence of time.

A journey into his Italian heritage, Tovo captures people and places with such nostalgia, the personal experience imbued in the images is not only engaging but inescapable. To be lost in an image, without the viewer being distracted by their own technical dissection, requires a photographer to let you into their soul and dissolve into their world. Italia Mia invites you into the alleys, bars and ancient landscapes of a country: the insights of Christopher Tovo into his Italy.”

Opening night on the 5th May at “The Colour Factory”.  Shows ends on the 28th May.

THE LEOPARD STORY

‘The shot was taken in Namibia where our guide took us to his friends house to see their “cat”. I didn’t really see the big deal at the time, thinking “cats?” pfft we got plenty of those back home. I had a change of heart however when I walked onto their property and it came out of the house and B lined straight towards me.  Ahhh…”CAT!”.

Anyway, the story was that the mother was found pregnant and in bad health on the property where she died before she could give birth to her three cubs. Our two hosts had to perform a cesarian to make the delivery, but two died soon after, leaving the one in question as their new addition to the family. It became very attached to its new Mother and Father and followed them everywhere, including the bathroom where it watched as they went to the toilet. After time it began to mimic them and is now the norm everytime Mother nature calls.  On learning of this I suspiciously asked if they could let me know when it next went to the bathroom so I could get a shot. Out of respect for it’s privacy, it is the only frame I took.’

PHOTOVO3 WRAP UP

Rock and Roll!! We had a party! Actually it wasn’t a party it was an AMAZING EXHIBITION.  Last Friday night  advertising crew, designers, models, musicians and stylists all piled into C.I. Studios for Chris Tovo’s third solo exhibition PHOTOVO3. The exhibition showcased 78 prints on 90 meters of cotton rag. The collection of black and white photos document Tovo’s epic journey through Africa and America late last year.

If you didn’t get a chance to pop in and see Tovo’s exhibition, goggle and gobble the fabulous cheese table done by stylist Renee Hodskiss, drink some booze from Fosters or mingle with cool and trendy like minded folk – then here’s a little snapshot of what you missed out on.

If you’re interested in seeing or purchasing any prints check out the gallery here and contact C.I. Studios on (03) 9429 9733. Otherwise check out some of Tovo’s other work here.
