‘The shot was taken in Namibia where our guide took us to his friends house to see their “cat”. I didn’t really see the big deal at the time, thinking “cats?” pfft we got plenty of those back home. I had a change of heart however when I walked onto their property and it came out of the house and B lined straight towards me. Ahhh…”CAT!”.
Anyway, the story was that the mother was found pregnant and in bad health on the property where she died before she could give birth to her three cubs. Our two hosts had to perform a cesarian to make the delivery, but two died soon after, leaving the one in question as their new addition to the family. It became very attached to its new Mother and Father and followed them everywhere, including the bathroom where it watched as they went to the toilet. After time it began to mimic them and is now the norm everytime Mother nature calls. On learning of this I suspiciously asked if they could let me know when it next went to the bathroom so I could get a shot. Out of respect for it’s privacy, it is the only frame I took.’

Rock and Roll!! We had a party! Actually it wasn’t a party it was an AMAZING EXHIBITION. Last Friday night advertising crew, designers, models, musicians and stylists all piled into C.I. Studios for Chris Tovo’s third solo exhibition PHOTOVO3. The exhibition showcased 78 prints on 90 meters of cotton rag. The collection of black and white photos document Tovo’s epic journey through Africa and America late last year.
If you didn’t get a chance to pop in and see Tovo’s exhibition, goggle and gobble the fabulous cheese table done by stylist Renee Hodskiss, drink some booze from Fosters or mingle with cool and trendy like minded folk – then here’s a little snapshot of what you missed out on.
If you’re interested in seeing or purchasing any prints check out the gallery here and contact C.I. Studios on (03) 9429 9733. Otherwise check out some of Tovo’s other work here.
Everyone starts out being in inspired by someone. Whether the work they actually end up producing reflects that inspiration or not is another question. They’re generally the reason you do what you do, or they’ve contributed to you being where you are in some significant way. Tovo’s inspired by lots of people, but when it comes to fashion Richard Avedon and Horst P Horst did it for him. Check them out.
Tovo had the pleasure of accompanying Clemenger BBDO as the stills photographer on their rip snorter of a TV Shoot for the new Fosters Campaign ‘Dry Dreams’. What a belter. Check out the TVC’s below. We love Rick Davies (the actor in the skeet shooting one) because he’s the best – and because he’s an old friend of Franny’s. And he once had to be in a ‘Women’s Sanitary Item’ advertisement. And to come back and be in one of the top beer ads after that is . . . well it’s pretty impressive, to say the least. Check out the behind the scenes footage on the Dry Dreams website. Love it. Keep your eye out for the stills to follow.
The boys from Rushcutter asked Tovo to shoot the film clip for their EP title-single ‘Call High Water’. Shot in Tovo’s stomping ground Collingwood the film clip is true to his signature style and rocks through the hipster traffic seen on Video Hits these days. Congrats to the boys; Jaime Robbie Reyne (vocals & guitar), Vincent Daniele (lead guitar), Tim Wheatley (vocal & bass guitar) & Brett Wolfenden (drums) on a great track list. Check out the film clip. Hot hot hot.
