People say, “family violence is not just a family matter”, to the Hickman and CI family, it IS a family matter.
Our director Barry Hickman (aka Baz) is an active member of the Brighton Rotary Club and one of their projects is to raise public awareness about domestic violence through their foundation Violence Free Families (VFF).
Baz’s son and daughter, Kiara and Kynon, volunteered their time to model for the awareness posters. Last Christmas, after reading the following statistics and facts, CI decided to donate the equivalent amount to the cause instead of buying corporate Christmas gifts.
2.56 million (33 per cent of all women) have experienced physical violence since the age of 15 (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2005).
Myth: It won’t happen again. Fact: Acts of family violence are often repeated and it tends to escalate over time.
Myth: The children won’t be affected. Fact: Children are aware of violence and it can cause significant trauma. They are affected even if they don’t see it.
Despite the heavy and dark nature of this topic, Kiara and Kynon had enjoyed working with Thom; who had kindly donated his time and talent towards the shoot.
The Hickman and CI family have made THIS our matter. So, make this matter yours as well.
